Why I Teach
We as humans have the ability to empathize and connect with others. Stories, poems, plays, and novels teach us about the lives, cultures, experiences, and histories of others. These texts allow the reader to experience a life outside of his or her own, yet good literature allows the reader to make personal connections. Writing allows people to express how they feel and convey their own personal truths with others. It allows for these thoughts, feelings, and truths to remain untouched by time. Literature and writing is what connects people across time and space; without English literature and composition, and English teachers, how can we learn what it means to be human?
I teach students about the human condition.
